Sable Solar Park (Phase 1)
Sable Solar Energy Phase 1 is a licensed 50 MW solar PV project. The project is being developed as the first phase of the Sable Solar Park. The first 30 MW phase of the project is expected to produce energy for the national grid by 2028.
Project Background
The Sable Solar Energy (SSE) project is a 50 MW solar PV project currently being developed by Tatanga Energy and its partners, JCM Power, Masawara Limited, through a special purpose vehicle Sable Solar Energy (Private) Limited.
The project is being developed on land close to Sable Chemical Industries Limited’s facility at Sherwood, approximately 20 km outside of the city of Kwekwe in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe.
The project has been designed as a grid-connected independent power project (IPP) and has secured a power generation license from the Zimbabwe Electricity Regulatory Authority (ZERA).
The project will incorporate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) designed to store electrical energy generated by solar panels during the day, enabling the utilization of this stored energy during night time when solar production is unavailable.
The plant will improve Zimbabwe’s electricity supply and, critically, lay the foundation for the development of the 400 MW solar park in the same area. The project is expected to come online in 2026.
